Introduction

In our interactive lecture, you will explore the core working principles of deep neural networks and start building your own artificial intelligence.

“Artificial Intelligence – How do deep neural networks learn?” was developed as a remote workshop in the Department of Computer Science of University of Liverpool to introduce core notions of machine learning in a fun and engaging way. Through lecture videos, offline puzzles, interactive neural networks, and programming projects, you will develop an intuitive understanding of binary classification tasks, how artificial neural networks are employed in solving these, and you will make first steps towards realizing a simple neural network classifier.

A core goal of the activity is to help demystify artificial intelligence. While artificial-intelligence methods have found widespread adoption and have increasing influence on individuals and society at large, large parts of the general public have had little exposure to its fundamental working principles and limitations.
