Introduction

We may have very little scope for real travel at the moment but the internet does at leas give us a chance of virtual travel. Google street view covers huge area of the world which we can visit for free – it may not be as good as the real thing but at least there’s no chance of being run over.

The format for the sessions is as follows:

Meet up on zoom.

Using the link for street view we start in St Mark’s Square

Stroll around the area, hop over the Grand Canal or wander through the maze-like alleys

Find a view which appeals to you and have a go at sketching

Email us the drawings to be posted on our blog

Follow up research

Travel sketchbooks go back a long way – at least as far as German artist, Albrecht Durer, (1471 – 1528) and we may imagine that the camera has made the sketchbook obsolete. Not so. Urban Sketching is an internet phenomenon and the art of drawing as a form of Reportage is still being practised. Some websites you may like to look up:
